It’s a musher and a team of dogs against distance and the elements. In frozen temperatures, through dark, cold nights and across long stretches of frozen white landscape, they build a bond. As much as the musher is passionate about running the race, for the dogs, it's a calling. They are born to run, and to run in teams.  The musher protects the dogs and the dogs protect each other and their musher. The bond that musher and team have is a bond created through hardship and success, through loss and the hunt for glory. They run 1,150 miles across frozen landscape in just over a week facing sub-zero temperatures as well as blizzards and gale-force winds. Over the course of a race (and in the training that leads up to it), these dogs give and sacrifice and lead and love and give more.

“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.”
